Nestled in the heart of Chula Vista at 400 Broadway, Manhattan Bar is a beloved local hotspot that artfully bridges the gap between a classic lounge, an energetic bar & grill, and a vibrant cocktail bar. This inviting venue is far from your average watering hole—it’s a community staple radiating timeless charm and authentic character that keeps patrons coming back time and again.
One of the standout features of Manhattan Bar is its carefully curated drink selection. Whether you’re in the mood for a refreshing Michelada bursting with spice and zest, a robust and savory Bloody Mary, or a crisp Cerveza, this bar delivers with genuine flair. Craft beer enthusiasts will appreciate their rotating lineup, featuring local gems like Stone's Fear Movie Lions DIPA, while cocktail lovers can indulge in unique concoctions such as the vibrant Tokyo Tea or a smooth, invigorating Cold Brew cocktail. Each sip here tells a story, perfectly complementing the casual yet lively atmosphere.
The ambiance at Manhattan Bar is nothing short of captivating. Longtime patrons, including one affectionately dubbed ‘THE HAMMER,’ speak highly of the “absolutely timeless” atmosphere—a blend of nostalgic dive bar warmth with touches of modern vibrancy. The space is cozy yet energetic, boasting a small dance floor ideal for lively nights out, especially during popular cumbia nights that draw a fun-loving crowd ready to dance and unwind.
Regular visitors often cite the exceptional service as the heartbeat of the Manhattan Bar experience. Bartender Amy, hailed by many as perhaps the best mixologist in San Diego, elevates every visit with her expert pours and personable charm. On lucky nights, you might also cross paths with “Propeller, Dave,” a local character who adds even more personality to the venue’s welcoming vibe.
Manhattan Bar also features live music and two pool tables, establishing it as more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s a dynamic community hub. Despite its popularity, the bar maintains an inviting, unpretentious essence, consistently described as a “step up from a dive bar.” That subtle elevation is what makes it an ideal spot to gather with friends, share laughs, and indulge in expertly crafted drinks.
Parking can be a challenge on weekend nights when the crowd peaks, but savvy guests know to take advantage of the free parking available just across the street. This minor inconvenience is easily overshadowed by the sheer joy of being in a place where every detail—from the buzzing live music to the carefully chosen beverage menu—works harmoniously to create memorable evenings.
For locals like Pat Kauwoh, Manhattan Bar remains a cherished landmark imbued with nostalgia and resilience, having endured ownership changes yet preserving its core identity. It’s more than a bar; it’s woven deeply into the cultural fabric of Chula Vista.
In all, Manhattan Bar offers an authentic, engaging, and spirited night out where the drinks flow, conversations thrive, and every guest feels like part of the family. Our bartender was Amy. The atmosphere was absolutely timeless. The service exceptional! If you're lucky you might get to meet Amy, the best bartender, quite possibly in San Diego, and if you're really lucky on the same day? You might just get to meet "Propeller, Dave".
This is a local Chula Vista bar with live music and two pool tables. It's a step up from a dive bar, and they have a rotating list of about 10 craft beers in addition to their full bar. It gets fairly crowded here on weekends. Parking can be a bit tough on weekends, but you can park across the street from their lot for free. It's not a bad place for a couple drinks with friends. The staff is also generally pretty friendly and attentive.
It's a typical great dive bar! Try their micheladas, they're terrific. Nuff said!
I have always liked this place, even before I had a stroke, 5 years ago. It has changed few owners, but still carries the name The Manhattan, a Chula Vista landmark to me. I Wish the 24hr Flamingo Cafe was still across the street. Both went hand in hand. Bar shut down and everybody including owners would eat at cafe. (NW corner) The only problem with Manhattan is, that it is totally terrible to move a power chair in ADA bathroom, since I'm disabled now. But STILL gave this place a 5 for still a great place after 20 years!
Like coming here with my cousins. It's pretty small with a small dance floor. We like coming on cumbia night. Oh yeah, good luck with parking. Overall, we have fun. We party and drink
My experience there is like hanging out with my family. Always fun!!!
